Reaching financial agreement between two parties can sometimes require a commitment of time, energy and resources to achieve an optimal outcome.  As part of the process, some recipients may attempt a range of delaying tactics; present specific barriers; be hung up on a perceived issue or conflict; or behave in a disagreeable manner.  All with the objective of hindering negotiations.  

At Total Risk, negotiating settlements is one of our specialties.  Since our establishment in 2006, we have handled a wide range of negotiations, for a diverse range of businesses throughout New Zealand.  We regularly negotiate issues involving over $100,000 and some in excess of $1 million.  And for some businesses, we negotiate settlements for sums as low as $400.  Regardless of the amount, our commitment is to deliver the desired results in a timely and professional manner.

Our approach when negotiating settlements includes:

• Undertaking any necessary research around the situation; ensuring all information held by our client is both accurate and current.  
• Determining a clear understanding of the desired result.
• Developing a pre-established strategy for managing bad news, prior to the field visit.
• Undertaking an ‘in person’ field visit by one of our senior, experienced field agents.
• During the initial visit, taking the time to hear the customer’s point of view.
• Managing customer reactions and de-escalating any conflict while on site.
• Maintaining communications throughout the process, with a focus on minimising any potential conflict or litigation requirements.
• Negotiating/renegotiating settlements within pre-set parameters.
• Organising and tracking customers’ agreed payments.
• Undertaking negotiations while preserving our clients’ brand and reputation.
